Education is incredibly important to me. I’m proud of my results over the years, from school, to university and beyond.
In Ireland, we have a leaving certificate examination for school leavers. The results of these exams help you get your place in college. Back in the 90’s (yep, all those years ago), some of subjects had a particularly difficult reputation. Amongst those was English, whereby students had to display their knowledge of prescribed texts but also demonstrate written creativity. Even though it was 17 years ago, to this day the fact that I achieved an A2 in English in my leaving certificate is something of which I am very proud. Achieving a total of 495 points out of 600 was also no mean feat, placing me in the top 5% of all candidates that year.
My university career spanned four years between 1997 and 2001. I graduated in 2001 with a 2h1 degree in Business Information Systems, a degree programme specifically designed to develop graduates with both technical and business knowledge. I owe a lot of my success as project manager during the last few years to the solid foundations learned during my undergraduate degree studies.
Education for me didn’t stop there of course. I’ve taken courses in Photoshop, Illustrator, Webserver Admin, WordPress, Linux, Java, Project Management and ITIL to name a few. I’ve also earned further qualifications in Applied Multimedia (Diploma) and Project Management (CAPM). It’s not possible to stand still when it comes to the web. Even in the last few years, the advent of mobile devices has necessitated brand new ways of thinking like responsive design. A willingness to learn new things is an essential skill in this whole area. And it’s a willingness I certainly hold.
